Georgina Erasmus (neé de Vos)
Father-George de Vos (passed away January 1999)
Mother-Lily (passed away March 2003)
I live in glorious Cape Town South Africa, after immigrating from Rhodesia.
(Rhodesia now Zimbabwe - Bulawayo, Gwelo, Salisbury, SWA now Namibia - Rundu.)
Born in Bulawayo 3rd June 1945, and Newmansford and Eveline Schools pupil and
worked as a hollerith operator (A far cry from the now computer invasion)
Mike and I were married in Bulawayo, and after becoming the wife of a soldier, I soon
learnt all the tricks of being posted and setting up home.
It began in Bulawayo (Brady Barracks) Gwelo (School of Infantry) Salisbury (RLI)
then back to Bulawayo (Llewellin Barracks) where he held the position of RSM.
Mike was a mid heavyweight wrestler and I am sure many ex-Rhodesians would
have remembered him.
We immigrated to South Africa in 1980 and were transferred to SWA.
Sadly, Mike passed away in 1985 from a heart attack.
This prompted me to return to South Africa as most of my relatives live here, and
I needed comfort and understanding at this turning point in my life.
I settled in Cape Town and it took me a long time to adjust and make decisions on my own.
Later, I became involved with a cosmetic company and, before long, holding the
position of Regional Distributor for the Western Cape.
Eight years later, feeling the need for a complete change I found myself in
the transport field which entailed onboard computer monitoring.
After a while, tired of climbing in and out of huge transport trucks, checking
driver habits, speed etc, another change was on the horizon and I took a course
on film making.
I enjoyed video work, but had the urge to start my own business.
Realising that there was a need for business advertising, I decided to create a
Digital Directory.
The software had to be developed, but the programmer took so long to complete it
that the Internet took over instead, thus throttling my ideas.....so, moving with the times,
I followed the Internet direction.
I am self-motivated and self-taught as far as this computer invasion.
My flair for graphics soon found me creating fancy email stationery, animations and banners.
I enjoy gardening and have a passion for nature and God's creations but.........
petrified of spiders! Pity they weren't created with less legs!
There were certainly plenty of them in SWA and on many occassions I ended up
on the top of a table, until one day, I realized that some of them actually
joined me up there! They were trying to hide in my shadow and the more I moved...
the more they moved!
I was convinced that they knew what they were doing to my nerves and thoroughly
enjoyed themselves!
I have a great sense of humour and have many stories to tell.
Perhaps one day I will write a book and who knows, it could become a best seller!
Maybe I do have some hidden talent!
I developed this website in 2003 and hope that you will add your details to it.
Not realising when I started a contact list that I would have had such a tremendous response!
I am overwhelmed by the compliments, and more important, all the lost family
and friends who have managed to reunite with each other.
I hope that my website will help you to find lost family and friends as well.
New entries are uploaded regularly.
I would like to add that I joined Face Book and this has been a great experience.
I created a Group called Rhodesians Reunite...Wow
This has really been a wise move as many folk post comments and bring back so many memories.
Plenty pictures too.
Click on it and have a wonderful and inspiring journey.
I created another group - Rhodesian Schools.
The link to Add Your School is at the top of this site in the drop down menu.
If you would like to drop me a line I would like to hear from you.
